When you dream, what do you dream about? Take a moment, sit back, and dream. Take it all in; the sights, the sounds, the feels. Go ahead, dream for a bit.
Keep dreaming…
How do you feel while you are dreaming? Relaxed? Happy? Inspired? How do you feel when you come back to the present moment? What happened to those feelings you were just experiencing?
Dreaming is a future-oriented exercise. Living is a present-oriented experience. When you stop dreaming, all the barriers seem to rise up like towering mountains limiting your view and blocking your path. Instead of dreaming, try to remember your future. Use words like “I remember when…”
Example: I remember driving down the long driveway seeing the front door of the house behind a circular driveway. I remember parking my Miami blue M3 Convertible in the 4-car garage, walking into my house where I stopped to hang the keys, glancing at myself in the mirror and noticing a tanned smile that is perpetually on my face. I remember walking on to make an espresso in a large kitchen before walking out to my outdoor office overlooking the pool. I remember looking past the pool across the manicured backyard to see a family of deer at the edge of the wooded acres on my property. I remember smiling broadly and contemplating what I was going to do today. No sense of worry. Complete freedom.
While you remember your future, take a moment to turn around and look back to the present moment. How far down the path from the future to the present can you see? It’s always easier to see things looking backward than looking forward.
When you remember the future, you are reminding your present that you overcame the barriers. Now identify them and start getting rid of all of them.
