Options Are Opportunities
In our family there are those of us who can make quick decisions and those of us who cannot. One way to spot the difference is at a restaurant. When there are multiple pages to a menu, some of us simply need more time to review our options. While others simply scan to find their favorite option one or two then placing the menu down confident in their decision.
Regardless of which type fits you most comfortably, the options you engage with represent the opportunities you’re open to. When you take the time to fully read each menu item, you’re open to the opportunity of trying something new. When you edit the list down to what you “know you like”, you’re not open to trying something new.
In every decision you make there are at least five options. The question to ask is whether you see all the options in front of you or have you edited the list because you know what you like. When you get into the habit of only looking at the options you know you like, you close yourself off to all the other possibilities. Like mom said when you didn’t want to eat your broccoli, “You’ll never know if you don’t try.”
To experience moving forward, why not slow down when you’re ordering and read the entire menu. Take a chance on something new. Regardless of the outcome, you’ll learn something and possibly open yourself to a whole new set of opportunities.
The more options you see, the more opportunities you have.
