Five Be’s.
Moving forward can be challenging no matter what age you are or how much experience you have. Marcus Aurelius once penned “The world is nothing but change. Our life is only perception.” Change is constant and it requires you to be continually checking in on yourself. Simply reframing your perspective can make all the difference in how you affect change and how change affects you.
Consider the Five Be’s as guiding principles. Let them become a set of mantras to encourage you.
- Be curious. Never stop asking questions of yourself. Look for the questions behind the questions. The reasons behind your decisions, words, and actions. Seek out the core answer to “Who am I?”
- Be compassionate. Toward yourself as much as you are toward others. It is okay for you to put time into understanding you better. Give yourself the space to explore and the grace to recognize you are constantly changing as well.
- Be confident. As you learn more about your wiring, about your design, your nature, grow in your confidence about who you are. When you truly know yourself, you are free of other people’s interpretations, associations, and expectations. Be confident in that.
- Be surprised. Allow yourself the freedom to not know what you don’t know. Give yourself the greatest of all surprises and become surprised. This is a powerful moment when the “Aha!” comes and things become a bit clearer.
- Be grateful. Gratitude is the foundation for acceptance. Your life is full of experiences and people that have led you to where you are. Be grateful for each one of them, accept them for the purpose they have served. Let them go if they no longer serve a purpose. Be grateful for where you are and where you are going.
