Early in my career, I ran across a story of a guy who always ended his letters, memos, and emails with the salutation “Keep marching forward.” For the first decade of my career every email I sent had those closing words: “Keep marching forward!”

Over time, I softened the message. What started out as a battle cry to “Keep marching forward!” became a coach’s rallying invitation to “Always move forward.” This mantra is such a part of my life that I put it on a vanity plate: MVG FWD.

Last fall, I was lost. Wondering what I was doing, why, and to what end. I went for a walk to contemplate things and when I returned home, my eyes were drawn toward the back of my car and the vanity plate: MVG FWD. Could those letters help me find me?

After several weeks and some soul searching the MVG FWD Reframe-work came into focus. Six words, six questions to help me go deeper to move forward faster.

  • Motivation: what gives me energy?
  • Values: what drives my operating system?
  • Gifts: what is my superpower?
  • Framing: what do you believe in?
  • Work: what efforts bring me fulfillment?
  • Dreams: what is my vision for the future?
